SENO (Special Educational Needs Organiser)

Description

About this service:

A SENO works for the National Council for Special Education (NCSE). SENOs plan and coordinate the extra education supports for children with additional needs. They give information to parents and guardians, advise on special classes and special schools, and help when a child is moving between schools. They process applications for school transport and assistive technology.

Who can use it:

Parents and guardians of children with additional education needs, and schools. Each SENO covers a set of local areas.

How to access the service:

Self-referral accepted. A parent can phone or email their local SENO directly. No form.

Telephone and access details:

Local SENOs and their numbers are in Part 3: School contacts. NCSE head office: 01 603 3346

Email contact details:

Each SENO has their own address. See Part 3.

Website information:

ncse.ie (SENO Contact List; School Information Map)

Good to know:

A SENO does not assess a child. For assessment, see HSE Assessment of Need. The NCSE list names areas, not postcodes. If a family’s area is not named, use the School Information Map on ncse.ie, or ring the head office on 01 603 3346.
